The world’s biggest sports tournament, FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026 is going to start from Friday 11th June (midnight 12th June in India) and for this all the teams have gathered in America, Mexico and Canada. This time many things are going to happen for the first time in the World Cup, in which apart from hosting, 48 teams are also going to participate for the first time. But apart from this, many new rules have been implemented by FIFA, which will play a big role in controlling the players and maintaining discipline as well as transparency during the match.
These 8 new rules will tighten the reins on players
- world cup 2026 The most important among the new rules is the ban on players from talking while covering their mouth with their hands. Often players talk to each other or to the players of the opposing team in this way, but now they will not be able to do so. If any player is found doing this, he will be shown a straight red card.
- Similarly, during a throw-in, corner kick or penalty, if any player commits a foul even before the ball comes on the field, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) can investigate it and give punishment. So far VAR intervenes only when the action is in progress.
- Similarly, if the match referee ever gives a wrong corner kick or shows a yellow card to a player for the second time in the same match, then in both these cases VAR can intervene and reverse the decision.
- Generally, during ‘throw-in’ or goal kick, the outfield player or goalkeeper takes more time. But now there will be a direct countdown of 5 seconds and if it fails, the opposing team will get a throw-in or corner kick.
- Similarly, teams will have to substitute players within 10 seconds. If this does not happen then the substitute player will have to wait for 1 minute and in such a situation that team will have to play without a player till then.
- If a team walks out of the field in protest against any decision of the referee or for any other reason, the entire team can be shown a red card as punishment.
- If any player gets injured during the match, he will have to stay off the pitch for one minute before returning to the field. Only after that he will be able to recover and return.
- Apart from this, if the goalkeeper gets injured and the medical team is examining him, then in such a situation the players of any team will not be able to go to the technical area i.e. dug out and talk to the coaching staff.
