Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sindhu has held important meetings and issued necessary instructions for the safety of women and girls in Delhi. Chaired a review meeting with Delhi Police Commissioner and Secretary (Transport) to strengthen the safety arrangements for women in Delhi, especially in the DTC bus network.
It was decided in the meeting that women police personnel will be deployed inside DTC Ladies Special buses, which will be driven by women staff on those identified routes where there are more women passengers. Apart from this, women home guard marshals will also be deployed to help them and further enhance the safety and confidence of the passengers. Along with this, an important decision was also taken to directly connect the panic button alert in buses with the 112 PCR emergency response system of Delhi Police, which will make the response system faster and more effective.
Apart from this, Delhi Police will soon create special police stations only for women in every district of Delhi, which will handle cases and complaints related to crimes against women and children with more sensitivity and efficiency.
LG also gave instructions to conduct audit on compliance of POCSO Act.
In another meeting, the Lieutenant Governor reviewed the implementation of the POCSO Act in Delhi and asked the Delhi Police Commissioner, Secretary of the Women and Child Development Department and the Director of Education to conduct a comprehensive audit to ensure compliance with the POCSO Act and its related guidelines in all the schools of Delhi. LG gave strict instructions to the Education Department that strict action should be taken against those schools or institutions which are not following the guidelines.
Special instructions given to the police
LG asked Delhi Police to make active security arrangements in school premises, especially during school holidays, to prevent any untoward incidents against children and to increase confidence among parents and students. Also, a policy of zero tolerance should be adopted on molestation, harassment and molestation of women and children.
