Farmers of Bihar got huge gift, government deposited Rs 200 crore in their account

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Monday, providing relief to the farmers affected by the storm, untimely rain and hailstorm in the third and fourth week of March, 2026 during the year 2025-26, transferred a grant amount of more than Rs 200 crore online through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the bank accounts of more than 3.96 lakh farmers under the Agricultural Input Grant Scheme.

Addressing the program organized at the official residence of the Chief Minister, the Chief Minister said that due to climate change, farmers have to suffer losses due to natural disasters like untimely rains, storms and hailstorms. He said that the state government is providing all possible assistance to the disaster affected farmers from its resources.

Crops in 13 districts were damaged

The Chief Minister said that the Agricultural Input Grant Scheme is not only a scheme to provide financial assistance, but is also a medium to instill confidence and stability among the farmers. He said that due to the natural disaster that occurred in March 2026, reports of more than 33 percent crop damage were received in 13 districts of the state—Saharsa, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Madhepura, Araria, Begusarai, Purnia, Darbhanga, Kishanganj, Khagaria, Madhubani, Supaul and Bhagalpur. According to the Chief Minister, to provide immediate relief to the affected farmers, Rs 200 crore was made available by the Disaster Management Department and an additional amount of Rs 60.71 crore was also approved on the request of the Agriculture Department. Thus, a total provision of Rs 260.71 crore has been made to assist the farmers. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the welfare of farmers and empowerment of the agriculture sector is being given top priority. Two days ago, the amount of Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi was transferred to the accounts of farmers. He urged the farmers to join the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme and said that it helps in compensating the losses incurred during natural disasters.

Compensation for losses caused by natural disasters

The Chief Minister said that the double engine government of the Center and the State is committed to increasing the income of farmers, making agriculture more safe and sustainable and compensating for the losses caused by natural disasters. He said that this assistance amount will provide support to the affected farmers to resume farming activities and will play an important role in strengthening their economic condition. After the program, the Chief Minister held a review meeting of the Sugarcane Industry Department and directed the officials to take necessary steps for the revival of sugar industry in the state, to promote investment and increase the income of farmers. He said that there is vast potential for development of sugarcane based industries in Bihar. An effective action plan should be prepared for the revival of closed sugar mills and establishment of new sugar mills in the state. The Chief Minister directed to work expeditiously to revive industrial activities in the areas with closed sugar mills including Rayam, Sakri, Sasamusa, Madhaura, Motipur, Samastipur, Chakia, Chanpatia and Motihari. He said that this will create employment opportunities at the local level and farmers will also get direct benefits.

Emphasis on increasing sugarcane production

He said that the department should work rapidly by making a special action plan to develop the Champaran region among the major sugarcane production areas of the country. All necessary steps should be taken to increase sugarcane production, improve productivity and provide better markets to farmers. The Chief Minister said that under the Bihar Sugarcane Industry Promotion Policy-2026, there is a need to pay special attention to attracting maximum investment, encouraging investors and modernization of the sugar industry. He said that the state government is committed to the prosperity of farmers, industrial development and strengthening the rural economy and will provide all possible support for the overall development of the sugarcane sector.
