May 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Is the heat increasing year by year? Is the Sun God raining fire year after year? These are some of the questions that remain on everyone’s lips every year as soon as the month of May arrives. In any city, if electricity goes off for hours in the afternoon or night, the situation there can be understood. Every year it seems that the heat is wreaking more havoc than last time. But how true this is! Has the heat actually increased or has our stamina decreased? What does the temperature record say and how much has our lifestyle changed? Are we losing our ability to tolerate heat like before? This also needs to be understood equally seriously.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius was recorded last Monday. With this temperature, any resident of the capital can be asked about their condition. Whereas earlier in the year 2012 also the same temperature was recorded. The Meteorological Department also estimates that Seasons of Nautapa The temperature in and around Delhi is likely to remain between 43 to 44 for the next few days. But this temperature has created panic among the people. There were no dark clouds in the sky, no cold wind and no rain anywhere. No matter how much people use air conditioners, natural air and rain are something else.

Luxury amenities part of lifestyle

It is noteworthy that whether people are residents of metropolitan cities or small towns… modern facilities are becoming a part of their lifestyle. This can be seen by examining the records of the Meteorological Department. Every year, the data of heat and temperature falling between May to July will be available almost from the surrounding areas. But our restlessness is increasing year by year. We feel that this year it is more hot than last year. Why is this happening?

If we take a look at the temperature of Delhi and major cities of the country, we see shocking figures compared to the year 2026 in previous years. Very few people will remember that on June 4, 1989, the maximum temperature recorded in the country’s capital Delhi was 48 degrees Celsius. In the chart given below, the maximum temperatures recorded in Delhi during the following years can be seen.

Delhi Temperature Record

AC for home, car, metro, office

The condition of Delhi and small towns is also similar. The dense colonies inside the cities increase the tension among the people in case of light failure in the slightest heat. There was a time when even in metropolitan cities like Delhi, most of the people did not have the facility of AC in their homes. Common people would travel in DTC buses and enjoy the cool air of the cooler at their homes. This was before the expansion of metro network in Delhi. Now, as soon as the facility of AC in the house, AC in the car and traffic free travel by AC metro is available, it starts biting like a little sunshine. The body starts boiling due to hot air. Temperature starts affecting our stamina. Sunlight starts burning the skin.

It is noteworthy that air conditioner is a necessity of today’s working life. Today every person is under pressure to increase his productivity. Keeping pace with machines and technology, it seems as if humans have also converted into technology. For good quality and greater productivity, work at good speed is possible only when the surrounding environment is also cool. But our immunity is also getting affected due to the habit of spending too much time in the air conditioner. Air conditioner not only provides cool breeze but it also has a bad effect on health. A little heat causes irritation.

temperature becoming unbearable

Let us tell you that natural sunlight and winds maintain our immunity system. Instead of natural remedies to remove heat, we have become more dependent on AC. But it was not taken into account that excessive use of air conditioner affects many parts of the body, from skin, bones, hair to muscles. It also harms the environment. Damage to the environment means life in trouble. However, it is also true that one cannot live without air conditioner during summer. This is the reason why the temperature in May-June may be almost the same as in previous years, but it is becoming unbearable.
