Amid the NEET-UG paper leak controversy, Karnataka’s Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) broke all its previous records in terms of declaring results after the examination. The university created a new record on Tuesday by declaring the results of the sixth semester of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) just 5 minutes after the end of the last paper.
This result was announced by University Vice Chancellor Professor S. Vidyashankar and Registrar (Evaluation) Professor U. J. Jointly released by Ujjwal. A total of 60,856 students from across the state appeared in these examinations and the pass percentage was 76.84%.
How the evaluation was done in a few minutes
The last practical examination in the university ended at 5:30 pm on Tuesday and just 5 minutes later, by 5:35 pm, the complete result was released online. In this way, the entire process of evaluation of the examination was completed 21 days earlier than the previous academic year.
To understand how a university can evaluate thousands of engineering students in a matter of minutes, VTU officials said the secret lies in digital integration and scheduling.
Theory Phase: The theory examinations of the sixth semester of engineering were conducted between May 18 and June 17. Since the university uses a completely digital evaluation system, all the theory papers were scanned, and then evaluated online by professors and their marks were entered into the university’s central software several weeks in advance.
Practical Phase: The second and final phase of the examination was the practical exam. Practical examinations ran from June 18 to June 30. Internal and external examiners were instructed to enter the practical and viva marks directly into the secure university digital portal immediately after the completion of each student’s lab examination on Tuesday.
As the clock struck 5:30 pm, the software added the already existing theory marks with the recently submitted practical marks and then automatically generated the final marksheet within just 5 minutes. This achievement is part of a technology-based initiative of the university administration that aims to eliminate the worry of students waiting for long hours for the results.
Success through excellent planning and proper preparation: VC
English website Indian Express quoted Vice Chancellor Vidya Shankar as saying on this achievement, “Students had to wait for their results for a long time, which directly impacts their higher education and placement timelines.”
He said, “With excellent planning and proper digital preparation, we achieved this feat of releasing the exam results almost instantly. I congratulate the entire administrative staff of VTU, the examination section and the teachers of our affiliated colleges who worked tirelessly to make this possible.”
Rapid reduction in time to release results
Registrar (Evaluation) Professor Ujjwal said, “We adopted the method of digital evaluation and prepared to declare the results soon. This was possible only with everyone’s cooperation.” The University has continuously reduced the time taken to complete the evaluation process over the last few academic years.
While in the sixth semester of 2022-23 (41,835 students) the result was declared within 10 days, in the next two years 2023-24 and 2024-25, the results were also declared in 10 or 11 days. But in 2025 (final year) the result was declared in just 1 hour. Then 50,321 students had appeared in the examination. In 2026 (final year), it took 10 minutes to release the results of 56,000 candidates, but this time the results were declared in just 5 minutes.
