
On completion of two years of implementation of three new laws in the country, the Home Ministry has taken a big decision on Electronic Evidence Investigation. From January 1, 2027, arrangements for digital investigation will be made by the police across the country. Its electronic record will be maintained in the respective police stations across the country. This electronic digital investigation in the case will continue from the time the FIR is registered till the charge sheet is filed.
In fact, on July 1, 2024, three new criminal laws, the Indian Justice Code (BNS), the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS), and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA), were implemented in the country. It has completed two years on 1 July 2026. These laws have replaced the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act of the British era.
These states are on top in implementing the new law
Haryana, Goa, Assam, Chandigarh, Punjab are the top performing states in the implementation of the Judicial Code, i.e. after two years of implementation of the new law. According to the Home Ministry, after the implementation of three new laws across the country, major changes have been seen in the judicial system. The average time of case investigation has reduced by twenty-five percent. Zero FIR is being registered very easily. Most of the FIRs are digital.

Investigation is continuing as per the timeline of the case. The timeline of the case has become centralized. Scientific and forensic investigation has been fully implemented. Citizen centric implementation of the entire judicial code has been implemented. After the implementation of three new laws in the country, major changes have also been seen.
74.66 lakh FIRs registered in two years
74.66 lakh FIRs were registered in just two years. The rate of filing chargesheet in sixty days has increased from 50 percent to 67 percent in the last two years. Apart from this, the rate of filing charge sheets in sexual crimes has increased from 44 percent to 75 percent in two years.
