June 6, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Emilio Gay: On the second day of the first Test match being played between England and New Zealand at the historic ground of Lord’s, young England batsman Emilio Gay has created history. Emilio Gay, who was out for only 8 runs in the first innings, showed amazing spirit in the second innings and by scoring a fighting half-century, achieved a milestone which no English opener had been able to achieve on home ground in the last 22 years.

Emilio Gay created history in debut test

Opening the second innings against New Zealand, Emilio Gay faced 95 balls and played an excellent inning of 57 runs with the help of 8 fours. With this half-century, he has joined a special elite list. He has become the first England opener since 2016 to score a half-century in his debut Test. Before him, Keaton Jennings had achieved this feat against India in Mumbai in 2016.

At the same time, the most important thing is that he has also become the first English opener in the last 22 years to score a half-century in his debut Test on home soil. Before him, in the year 2004, the legendary Andrew Strauss had played a century inning of 112 runs in his debut match against New Zealand on the same ground. Let us tell you, this pitch of Lord’s is proving to be a nightmare for the batsmen, where the fast bowlers are getting tremendous movement and bounce. But Emilio Gay has attracted everyone’s attention by scoring a half-century.

33 wickets fell in 2 days

16 wickets fell on the first day of the Lord’s Test between England and New Zealand, which started on June 4. At the same time, the second day was also in the name of the bowlers, on the second day both the teams together lost a total of 19 wickets. In response to England’s 140 runs, the New Zealand team collapsed after scoring 113 runs in the first innings. After this, England could also add only 226 runs in their second innings and were all out. In such a situation, New Zealand got the target of 254 runs to win the match. But by the end of the day’s play, New Zealand also lost 3 wickets in scoring 36 runs. That means the result of the match seems certain on the third day.
