June 16, 2026 by Uma Shankar

England vs New Zealand, 2nd Test: The second Test between England and New Zealand is to be played at the Oval ground in London. Even though New Zealand has not yet announced its playing eleven for this test match starting from 17th June. But England has put the final seal on those 11 names who will be seen playing in the second test of the series. Joe Root is the captain of England in this test. But, what is even more interesting is that even if all the England players who played in the Oval Test against New Zealand have Test experience taken together, Joe Root alone is not equal to him.

Joe Root Vs 10 players

England captain on the scale of Test experience in the second match against New Zealand Joe Root We are seen standing on one side and the remaining 10 players are seen on the other side. But still he outweighs them all. That is, even if the combined experience of the 10 England players included in the playing eleven of the second Test is not enough, they would be able to overcome the experience of Joe Root.

Where are the remaining 10 England players compared to Joe Root?

Joe Root has the experience of playing 164 test matches. In comparison to them, what is the experience of the remaining 10 players in the playing eleven, let us first know one by one.

Milo Gay has the experience of playing only 1 test. Ben Duckett has 44 Test experience and is the second most experienced player after Joe Root in the playing eleven of the second Test. Jacob Bethel has played 7 tests. Harry Brook has played 36 tests and is the third most experienced player in the playing eleven.

Jamie Smith has played 21 tests so far. Jordan Cox will be seen making his Test debut against New Zealand at the Oval. Joffra Archer has played 18 tests while Josh Tong has played 10 tests. Matthew Fisher has played 1 test so far. Apart from Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker will be the other player included in the playing eleven who will be seen playing his debut Test at the Oval.

Even after adding everyone’s experiences, it is less than the route.

Now if we add up the Test experience of all these players and compare it with Joe Root’s Test experience, then still he has less experience of 32 Tests. Compared to Root’s experience of 164 Tests, the experience of other players combined is only 134 Tests.
