
The 16th meeting of National Security Advisors (NSA) of BRICS countries was held in New Delhi on Tuesday (23 June). In this, the National Security Advisors and heads of delegations of BRICS member countries discussed the current security challenges facing the world. During this, apart from traditional security, challenges like energy, food, supply chain and cyber security and new technologies used by terrorist networks and climate change were also discussed.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the National Security Advisors of the member countries also reviewed the functioning and outcomes of the BRICS Joint Working Groups on Anti-Terrorism and the Working Groups on Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies. The meeting emphasized on further enhancing cooperation among member countries, sharing of information and coordination among law-enforcement agencies of BRICS countries to jointly combat terrorism and cyber threats.
Emphasis on these issues in the meeting
During the meeting, special emphasis was laid on the fact that terrorist organizations are using new and emerging technologies. In such a situation, there is a need to share intelligence among BRICS countries, increase coordination between law enforcement agencies and develop common capacity to deal with terrorism and cyber threats.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the main focus of the discussion was on emerging security risks which are spreading beyond national borders. The meeting highlighted the growing security threats posed by technological advancements, especially as extremist groups and criminal gangs adopt sophisticated digital tools.

The National Security Advisors reiterated their commitment to take joint action against terrorism in all its forms. Along with this, the progress of BRICS joint working groups formed on secure use of information and communication technology and anti-terrorism cooperation was also reviewed.
All member countries supported the agenda
In the meeting, all the member countries supported India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship agenda Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability. During the two-day conference, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held several bilateral meetings with counterparts from China, Iran, Brazil, Ethiopia and South Africa. After the conclusion of the meeting, all the National Security Advisors and delegations also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
