The terms of the proposed agreement between America and Iran have been revealed. Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency has given the information quoting a source close to the Iranian negotiation team. However, these conditions have not yet been officially confirmed by Iran or America. According to the report, the draft of the agreement has not been finalized yet, it is yet to be approved by Iran’s top leadership. According to Mehar News Agency, a total of 14 important points are included in the draft.
First of all, it has been said that there should be an immediate and permanent end to the war on all fronts. This also includes the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. According to the draft, America will not interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and will respect its sovereignty. Additionally, America will have to lift the naval blockade within 30 days and will also have to reduce its military presence deployed around Iran.
Proposal to open Hormuz within 30 days
The agreement also proposes that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened within 30 days. Its operation will be under the supervision of Iran. Apart from this, it has also been said that American sanctions on Iranian oil will be removed or suspended. According to the report, America and its allies will have to prepare a plan of at least $300 billion for the reconstruction of Iran. Along with this, both the countries will hold talks for 60 days so that a final agreement can be reached on the issues related to the nuclear program and removal of all economic sanctions.
Promise not to make nuclear weapons
In the draft, Iran has again promised that it will not make nuclear weapons. In return, America will not increase its military strength in the region during the talks and will not impose any new sanctions on Iran.
Under the agreement, there is also a proposal to release Iran’s frozen fund of $24 billion. Also, a special mechanism will be created to monitor compliance with the agreement. There is also a plan to get the final agreement approved through a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution.
The report said final talks would not begin until half of Iran’s funds were released. The oil embargo is not suspended and the naval blockade is not lifted.
There is no mention of missile program in the draft
An important thing is that in this draft, the issue of Iran’s missile program and its support to regional armed organizations has been completely kept out of the discussion.
On the other hand, Israel has already made it clear that it will continue its military campaign in the southern part of Lebanon, while the ceasefire in April has become almost ineffective. Many reports say that the success of a possible agreement between America and Iran will largely depend on the situation in Lebanon. Hezbollah continues to demand that Israeli forces withdraw completely from Lebanon.
