People keep adopting new methods to propose. Now a man risked his life and proposed to his girlfriend for marriage by going to the top of America’s famous and 102-storey high Empire State Building. Although this very dangerous stunt of this couple quickly went viral on social media, but as soon as both of them got down, they were arrested.
On Wednesday, a unique and extremely dangerous case of marriage proposal came to light on the highest peak of the Empire State Building, the famous building of New York City. Both of these people had climbed up to that part of the building where common people are prohibited from going.
Russian couple arrested, expert in stunts
These two arrested people have been identified as Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus. Both of them are Russian and “rooftoppers”. Both have been doing dangerous stunts in the past also. Earlier, he had done similar stunts in Chinese cities like Tianjin and Los Angeles. While climbing the building, both of them were wearing black clothes and their faces seemed to be covered.
After reaching the top, he hoisted a big black banner on the top spire of the skyscraper, on which it was written – “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
How did both reach the top?
However, it is not clear how they both managed to reach the end of the building, which is located at a height of 1,454 feet (443 meters) in Midtown Manhattan. Local media reported that an NYPD (New York Police Department) helicopter and a drone were present in the air near the incident site to keep an eye on this exciting stunt.
Shortly after 12:30 pm, the two men descended to a slightly lower platform on the antenna structure at the top of the building. Then a man got down on one knee and it seemed as if he had proposed to the woman for marriage. After this both of them hugged and kissed each other.
Several cases against the arrested couple
However, body-camera footage released by the New York Police on Wednesday afternoon showed the police arresting both of them. In this, an officer tells both of them, “You cannot come up here.” A statement issued by the police said, “On Wednesday, July 1, at approximately 12:00 a.m., two unidentified people were seen on the antenna of the Empire State Building located at 20 West 34th Street in the Midtown South Precinct area. The New York Police Emergency Services Unit responded immediately.”
The police statement further said, “Both men were taken into custody without incident. However, no injuries were reported. Charges are pending and the matter is under investigation.”
Later, local CBS News claimed that he has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass and recklessly endangering the lives of others.
Nicolau’s post on Instagram
On the other hand, in a story posted on Instagram, which also included a video taken from the top of the skyscraper, Nicolau wrote, “Right now at the Empire State Building. You can see it on the city’s webcam.” After some time, Nicolau also posted many pictures from there. In these he can be seen on the top of a tall building. Besides, pictures of the proposal and something like an engagement ring were also visible in her hand. Nicolau has more than 14 lakh followers on Insta.
