Eid ul Adha 2026: From Namaz to sacrifice, every Muslim must know the Sunnahs of Eid ul Azha.

Eid Ul Adha Sunnah in Islam: Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated on the tenth of ‘Zul Hijja’, the last month of the Islamic calendar. It is also commonly called Bakrid or Bakra Eid. This is one of the two most special Eids celebrated in the religion of Islam. Eid-ul-Azha falls every year two months after Eid-ul-Fitr i.e. Meethi Eid. On this Eid, Muslims sacrifice halal animals in the name of Allah and divide their meat. There is an order to divide the sacrificial meat into three parts. Muslims can perform sacrifice on any of these three days, 10th, 11th and 12th of Zul Hijja. But sacrificing on the 10th is considered the best.

Sacrifice is considered Wajib i.e. very important in Islam. This year Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on 28 May 2026. Even before this, Muslims buy a sacrificial animal and slaughter it in the name of Allah on Eid. Often Muslims think that Eid-ul-Azha means only sacrifice, but it is not so. Some Sunnahs to be performed on the day of Eid-ul-Azha have been mentioned in the Hadith, which every Muslim must do. Let us know what are the Sunnahs of Eid-ul-Azha.

Sunnah of Eid-ul-Azha

Sacrifice is not just a ritual, but it is a proof of Ikhlas (Khuloos) and obedience to Allah. It is very important for every Muslim to know its true purpose and correct method. Similarly, it is very important to know the Sunnahs of the day of Eid-al-Azha. The Sunnahs of the day of Eid-ul-Azha are mentioned below –

  1. wake up early in the morning and take bath
  2. Performing miswak and wearing clean clothes.
  3. Apply good perfume and make the house fragrant.
  4. Leaving home early for Eid prayers.
  5. Going to Eidgah or Masjid.
  6. Reciting Takbir while going to the mosque.
  7. Do not eat anything before namaz during Eid-ul-Azha.
  8. Offering Eid namaz and listening to Khutba.
  9. Change your route while returning after offering Namaz.
  10. To perform the sacrifice in the manner of Ikhlas and Sunnah.
  11. Distributing meat with loved ones, relatives and the poor.

Benefits of making sacrifice on Eid

Sacrifice provides both religious and worldly benefits:-

  • Blessings of Allah: Sacrifice is one of the worships closest to Allah.
  • Advocacy of Sunnah: Muslims follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
  • Forgiveness of sins: Sacrifice made with the right intentions can become a means of forgiveness of sins.
  • Spiritual peace: The feeling of sacrificing something for Allah purifies the heart and gives peace.
  • help the poor: Providing meat to the weaker section of the society is a great charity.
