After the formation of BJP government in West Bengal and the action taken by CM Shubhendu Adhikari against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, its impact is visible. Hundreds of Bangladeshi citizens, some of whom were reportedly carrying weapons, gathered at the India-Bangladesh border in Malda’s Sukhdebpur area on Saturday, escalating tension and prompting a swift response from the Border Security Force (BSF).
BSF, with the help of local police of Vaishnavnagar police station, foiled an alleged attempt to enter Indian territory from the unfenced part of the border.
India and bangladesh The border area between is Sukhdevpur in Vaishnavnagar. After Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister of Bangladesh in August 2024, several incidents of attempts to enter India from this area were reported.
Infiltrators attacked in Sukhdevpur
A few years ago, Bangladeshis had attacked Sukhdevpur several times. Since the border is without barbed wire, it is easy for infiltrators to escape after attacking. When BSF went to install barbed wire in that area, BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) stopped it.
Last year, when Bangladeshis entered and attacked Sukhdevpur, the local people protested. Local people say that they are ready to stop the infiltrators this time too. However, for security reasons, BSF and police are not allowing local people to go near the border.
Local people of Sukhdevpur say that Chapainagar is on the other side. Infiltration attempts are being made from there. BSF is stopping them. Local people say that several hundred people have gathered on the other side of Bangladesh.
What do former BSF officers say?
Former BSF officer Sameer Mitra said, infiltration efforts are going on from Sukhdevpur of Malda. This can be called a very infamous border. Fake notes or smuggling take place from here. The reason for gathering now is that perhaps they have some purpose. Our BSF and border people will have to unite. We cannot tolerate that miscreants will bring weapons from Bangladesh. BSF should call BGB and ask what is their motive?
After the change of government, the new state government has decided to give land to BSF for border security. Referring to this, BJP MLA and former NSG commando Dipanjan Chakraborty said, “Border security has been increased. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has handed over the land to BSF. Coordination between the state police and BSF has been increased. It would be an exaggeration to think that benefits will be seen in one to one and a half months, but 100 percent results will be seen.”
