
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday unveiled major reforms to improve efficiency, accountability and timely completion of strategic R&D projects by “providing financial power (DFP-2026)” to the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Rajnath Singh said that DFP-2026 will facilitate rapid production and induction into the defense forces of systems, platforms and technologies emerging from the R&D ecosystem and said that the new framework will promote stronger collaboration with industry and academia, thereby strengthening the vision of a self-reliant India.
He further said that the changed framework will help in increasing self-reliance in defense technology and defense Will help in strengthening the preparations. The objective of DFP-2026 is to significantly increase functional empowerment at different levels within the Department of Defense R&D.
DRDO gets new financial authority
He said the changed framework addresses several critical needs, including specific financial provisions for trial campaigns, test and evaluation activities, authority to approve pre-project R&D initiatives, and clear separation of financial powers for grants-in-aid related to extra-mural research projects, Defense Innovation Accelerator-Centres of Excellence, and Technology Development Fund projects.
