Double blow to the general public, after petrol and diesel, now CNG also becomes expensive.

May 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After the price of petrol and diesel increased for the third time in 10 days in Delhi-NCR, the common people have got a double dose of inflation. In fact, the prices of CNG have been increased once again in Delhi. This time the price of CNG has been increased by Rs 1 per kg, after which the price of CNG in Delhi has now become Rs 81.09 per kg. After the implementation of new rates, the fuel cost of autos, taxis and private vehicles has increased further. This increase is being considered as another blow for the people who are already troubled by the fluctuations and inflation in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Direct impact on transportation costs

The increase in the price of CNG will have the biggest impact on auto-rickshaw, taxi and cab services. Lakhs of people in Delhi-NCR depend on CNG vehicles as public transport every day. Due to cost of fuel, the cost of drivers will increase, the impact of which passengers may have to bear in the form of increase in fares.

Auto drivers say that their earnings are already limited and due to frequent increases in fuel prices, it is becoming difficult for them to manage. Many drivers have also demanded relief or subsidy from the government.

Consumers already under pressure

The prices of petrol and diesel already remain high in Delhi. In such a situation, the increase in the price of CNG will put additional burden on the monthly budget of common families. Especially those people who use CNG vehicles daily for office, school and other works, there will be a direct impact on their pockets.

Experts say that due to fluctuations in energy prices in the international market and instability in supply, fuel is becoming expensive even at the domestic level. India meets a large part of its energy needs through imports, hence the impact of global prices is directly visible on the domestic market.

fear of rising inflation

The increase in the price of CNG can affect not only transportation but also the prices of freight and essential goods. Due to increase in transport cost, the prices of vegetables, fruits and everyday items are also expected to increase.

If fuel prices do not stabilize in the coming days, inflationary pressure may increase further, which will further increase the problems of the common people.
