According to research published in Frontiers in Nutrition, eating too much spicy food increases the risk of cancer. Research says that this habit can make us a victim of esophageal cancer. This is cancer occurring in any part of the food pipe and one of its major symptoms is burning sensation in the chest all the time. Talking about Indians, spicy food is eaten a lot in most parts of the country including Rajasthan. Simply put, Indians are very fond of spicy food.

According to research, people who have the habit of eating excessively spicy food are at risk of gastro cancer which includes stomach, colon and rectum.

It is true that chilli peppers contain compounds that provide anti-inflammatory benefits. But research also says that spicy things should not be eaten excessively. Data from 14 different studies were included in this. About 110,000 people were included in the studies. There were also 5000 people who had gastrointestinal cancer.

Why is chilli spicy?

The reason for the spiciness in chilli is capsaicin which is a kind of natural compound. This activates heat and pain. However, many studies have revealed that this compound reduces inflammation in the body.

Some researchers believe that frequent consumption of very spicy food over a long period of time can cause persistent irritation or inflammation of the inner lining of the food pipe (esophagus) in some people.
