Amitabh Don Vs Shah Rukh Don: So far three films have been made under the ‘Don’ franchise in Hindi cinema. The first ‘Don’ came in 1978, in which Amitabh Bachchan played the lead role and thus Bollywood got its first ‘Don’. After about 28 years, Farhan Akhtar made the remake of ‘Don’. This time, Bollywood’s King Shahrukh Khan was introduced as ‘Don’ in place of Amitabh. Both the films were well liked and in terms of earnings, both Amitabh and Shahrukh’s ‘Don’ set the flag. According to statistics, Shahrukh’s ‘Don’ had done business of about Rs 97 crore more than Amitabh’s ‘Don’. However, if we look at the earnings compared to the budget, Amitabh’s ‘Don’ appears to be ahead in this matter.
Amitabh Bachchan That ‘Don’ had done a business of more than Rs 7 crore in 1978. The makers had spent around Rs 70 lakh on making this film. That means the film earned 10 times more than the budget. Amitabh’s ‘Don’ was directed by Chandra Barot and produced by Nariman Irani. The film was co-written by the iconic writer duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar.
How many crores did Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Don’ earn?
Javed Akhtar’s son Farhan Akhtar launched the film in 2006 under the Excel Entertainment banner. Shahrukh Khan Made ‘Don’ with. This was a big bet because people liked Amitabh Bachchan a lot as ‘Don’. But Shahrukh won the hearts of the fans. The remake also made bumper earnings at the box office. According to SACNILC, it had done a business of Rs 50.16 crore at the domestic box office about 20 years ago. The film had collected Rs 104.64 crore worldwide. Whereas the budget of Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Don’ was around Rs 40 crore. That means this film earned only about two and a half times the budget.
Then why is ‘Don’ in discussion?
Shahrukh Khan did two films as ‘Don’. After 2006, he became ‘Don’ in the year 2011 also. ‘Don 2’ also earned well. But when it came to making the third ‘Don’, Shahrukh refused to do the work. Later the role reached Ranveer Singh. But now he too has left the film. Farhan has alleged that his company Excel Entertainment has suffered a loss of around Rs 45 crore due to Ranveer leaving the film. In this matter, he had complained to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), after which this organization has ordered non-cooperation against Ranveer.
