Do you order food in the train? So be careful, IRCTC tightens the noose on these apps and sites

June 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Many types of websites and apps are active regarding Meals on Wheels while traveling by train. It has been seen many times that most of the apps turn out to be fake. In such a situation, the passenger’s money is also spent and food is also not available. Against such websites, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has tightened its grip on illegal e-Catering websites. Under this, many unauthorized websites and apps have been identified and action has been taken against them. According to IRCTC, many private websites and apps were misusing its name and brand and claiming to provide food to passengers.

Used to trap passengers by tricking them

IRCTC claims that some apps and websites are not included in the IRCTC list. In such a situation, there are some platforms where fake websites were taking orders from passengers by taking PNR, e-mail, mobile number and payment related information.

First notice then action

IRCTC first sent a legal notice to illegal websites and apps on 18 February. When no positive impact was seen, the first criminal complaint was filed on 16 March 2026, followed by the second complaint on 11 April. After complaints, illegal operators have been identified and action has been taken against them.

Action taken on these websites

IRCTC has taken action under the law against railrestro.com / railrestro.in, railmitra.com, travelkhana.com, trainscafe.com, dibrail.com, railfood.net, comesum.com, travelerfood.com, foodontrack.in, eCatering.app, khanaonline.in, trainway.in, railmeal.com, trainmenu.com.

According to IRCTC, by April 2026 its e-Catering service was available at more than 400 railway stations. More than 5,604 vendors were connected to it through 629 direct vendors and 13 authorized food aggregators. Through this facility, food is delivered to the seats of passengers of reserved trains. According to the data, an average of more than 1.55 lakh meals have been ordered per day through this service in April 2026.
