Different rules for different players… This veteran got angry on the selection of Harshit Rana, raised questions on BCCI

July 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Sadagoppan Ramesh On Indian Team Management: The Indian team has lost the T20 series against England. After this shameful defeat, former cricketers have started raising questions regarding the selection of Team India and the fitness of the players. Former Indian opening batsman Sadagopan Ramesh has taken the team management and selectors to task on his YouTube channel. He has raised serious questions on the selection of fast bowler Harshit Rana and said that different criteria are being adopted for different players in the team.

Why was Sadagopan Ramesh angry at the selection of Harshit Rana?

Sadagopan Ramesh, angry over Harshit Rana’s injury and his fitness, said, ‘How was Harshit Rana directly selected in the Indian team without proving his fitness anywhere after surgery? If you have not fully recovered from knee surgery, then it is certain that you will suffer a hamstring or quad injury later on, as happened with him. It is quite clear that he did not return to the Indian team with 100 percent fitness. This is proof that there are different rules for different players. India will be able to give good results again only when it fixes this problem.

Ramesh further said that the decision to rest him from the Zimbabwe tour and the announcement of the team even before this injury shows that the selectors already knew that Harshit was not in a position to play two consecutive series. He clarified that this is not a question on Harshit Rana’s ability, but about his fitness.

What are the rules of BCCI?

Last year itself, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had made strict rules for the players of Team India, according to which it is necessary for the players to play domestic cricket and prove their fitness before returning to the national team after recovering from injury. At the same time, Harshit Rana suffered a serious injury to his right knee during the warm-up match against South Africa before the T20 World Cup. Due to this injury, he had to undergo surgery in February 2026, due to which he could not play the entire IPL 2026 season. After this he returned to Team India without playing domestic cricket.

Did not show trust in Ravi Bishnoi

Apart from Harshit Rana, Ramesh also expressed surprise at the selection of spinners. Due to Varun Chakraborty’s injury in the match, India had to use Washington Sundar as the main spinner in place of Ravi Bishnoi. On this, the former cricketer said, ‘Despite having only two left-handed batsmen in the England team, due to Varun Chakraborty’s injury, India was forced to play Washington Sundar. This also makes it clear that the Indian team management does not trust Ravi Bishnoi.
