Just 72 hours before the signing of the 14-point MoU between America and Iran, tension in Israel-America relations has increased. US President Donald Trump is calling this signing program a mere formality, while reports coming from Israel indicate that this MoU will hardly reach its conclusion. On February 28, America and Israel jointly launched a joint attack on Iran, the purpose of which was to overthrow Iran and end its nuclear program.
After 40 days of war, Trump realized that these goals were not easy. Now they want a settlement through talks under any circumstances. On June 15, a 14-point MoU was finalized between America and Iran, in which Trump kept his and America’s interests paramount. Even if this means putting the interests of Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu at stake. This is the reason why now the paths of Netanyahu and Trump seem to be diverging.
This is Trump’s decision – Netanyahu
On Monday night, for the first time, Netanyahu reacted to the agreement. He clearly said, “This agreement has been prepared by America. It has been made on behalf of the American President. He feels that the withdrawal of troops and ending the nuclear program can actually be done simultaneously. This is his decision. I repeat, this is his decision. He is the one who is leading it.” This statement of Netanyahu is being seen as a sign of Israel adopting a different stance from America.
Is Netanyahu trapped?
According to reports, the Israeli Prime Minister is now trapped in a triangle from which the only way out is war. They appear to be under attack on three fronts:
Opposition attack- Prominent opposition leader Naftali Bennett said, “The countdown to the coup in Iran will begin only after the change of government in Israel.”
Resentment between Mossad and IDF- Top commanders of Mossad and IDF are also angry with the terms of the 14-point MoU. Netanyahu’s silence against Trump is increasing their anger. Many officials are openly opposing Netanyahu.
Anger in public- The Israeli public is also questioning what Israel got from this agreement after the long war?
Netanyahu also surrounded in corruption cases
Netanyahu’s troubles have also increased due to corruption cases. He is accused of bribery, fraud and betrayal. The case is being heard in a Jerusalem court, where Netanyahu’s testimony and cross-examination continues.
Recently, Netanyahu’s lawyers requested the court to reduce the hearing hours so that they could attend the ‘very important meeting’ of the government. But the judges rejected this request outright. This is being considered as a message that Netanyahu’s influence is no longer the same as before.
Iran announced to strengthen proxy network
While on one hand Netanyahu is on the backfoot in the country, on the other hand Iran has increased his tension further by making a big announcement. Ismail Kani, commander of the IRGC Quds Force, said, “All the organizations have demonstrated their strength brilliantly. Hezbollah also demonstrated tremendous strength in the war. Now Hamas will be rebuilt.”
Former Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had handed over the responsibility of proxy organizations to the Quds Force of IRGC. Now it is clear from the statement of Quds Commander that Iran will strengthen its proxy network after the agreement, in which Hamas will be at the top.
Two secret routes to deliver weapons from Iran to Gaza
Route-1 (Road + Sea) – 10 to 15 days
Weapons were transported from Iran via trucks to the Lebanese coast via Iraq and Syria. The weapons were then dumped from commercial ships in sealed, waterproof drums into the sea off the Gaza coast, where local fishermen retrieved them and delivered them to Hamas.
Route-2 (Sea + Road) – 2 to 3 months
Iranian ships used to come out of the Persian Gulf, cross the Arabian Sea and Bab al-Mandeb and reach the ports of Sudan. Then they were loaded in trucks and brought to Rafah border through the Nubian Desert, Egypt’s Eastern Desert and the Sinai Peninsula. From there, weapons were transported inside Gaza through underground tunnels.
‘Renaissance’ of Hamas after the agreement?
After the US-Iran deal, the sanctions imposed on Iran may be lifted, which will allow Iran to deliver relief material to Gaza without any hindrance. But there will be weapons hidden among the relief materials in these ships, which will make Hamas stronger once again. Iranian ships will now be able to reach Gaza directly by crossing the Suez Canal from the Red Sea, which will significantly reduce the time.
Will Netanyahu launch ‘Operation Proxy’?
Israel has been fighting an intermittent war in Gaza and Lebanon for the last three years. If Iran succeeds in re-establishing its proxy network after the agreement, it will be Netanyahu’s biggest defeat.
This is why Netanyahu has announced that the fight against Iran is not over yet. It is being claimed in the Israeli media that the Israeli army is not going to leave Lebanon and Gaza.
Henry Kissinger’s words still ring true today
Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had said, “America has no permanent friends or enemies, only its interests.” These words fit perfectly into today’s situations. Trump may be ready to make a deal with Iran according to his interests, but without Netanyahu and Israel’s interests being fulfilled, peace in the Middle East looks extremely difficult.
