June 27, 2026 by Uma Shankar

In Tinsukia district of Assam, police and central security agencies have foiled a major terrorist attack plot by taking joint action. In an operation based on intelligence, the police have arrested two active members of the banned organization ‘United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent’ (ULFA-I) from Jagun area.

According to police sources, the arrested terrorists have been identified as Sior Asom alias Humanjyoti Barua (27 years) and Manoj Asom alias Papu Moran (30 years). It is being told that Humenjyoti Barua is a resident of Panitola in Tinsukia, while Papu Moran is a resident of Baghjan area. Both were allegedly active in the ULFA (I) organization.

The aim was to create havoc in the city

Preliminary investigation has revealed that ULFA (I) had assigned the task of causing massive destruction in Tinsukia city to both the accused.
Their main objective was to indiscriminately attack innocent civilians in crowded areas of the city, take their lives and create terror in the hearts of people. Investigative agencies believe that behind this conspiracy there is a broader strategy to destabilize the region and the possible influence of external forces is also being investigated.

What was found from the accused?

Police have recovered a huge quantity of weapons and other material from the possession of both the accused. The recovered items include two AK-56 rifles, 172 live cartridges, two hand grenades, medicine kit, syringes, opioids, food items for a long stay in the jungle, backpack and other war-related material. From the recovered weapons and explosives, security agencies believe that preparations were being made to carry out some major crime.

Security agencies increased surveillance

After the incident, security agencies have increased vigilance in Tinsukia and surrounding sensitive areas. Police say that the interrogation of the arrested accused is going on and an operation is being conducted to find out their network, associates and possible other locations. At present, this entire network is being investigated in depth. Officials said that due to these arrests, the lives of many people could be saved in Upper Assam. Officials say that after the completion of the investigation, detailed information about the entire conspiracy and other people involved in it will be shared. Security agencies are considering this action as a major success in maintaining peace and security in the area.
