Questions are continuously being raised regarding E20 petrol, on which answers are also coming from the government. Now this matter has reached the Supreme Court. The petitioner has filed a PIL on E-20 through advocate Narendra Mishra. In this, the Supreme Court has been demanded that normal and E10 (10% ethanol-blended) petrol should be available continuously and without interruption at all the fuel stations across the country. So that consumers can get a chance to choose clearly.
The petitioner demands from the Supreme Court that the Center should be directed to mandatorily label the quantity of ethanol on all fuel dispensing units (refueling machines), which should be clearly visible to the consumers. Also install prominent signboards that inform consumers whether their vehicle is compatible with that fuel or not.
Government should contribute ₹50-₹55 towards the cost of blended petrol
The petition demands that the Center be directed to ensure that before implementing the impugned policy, all two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles – especially those manufactured before 2023 and currently plying on Indian roads – are adequately covered under some appropriate insurance scheme. The Center may also be directed to contribute ₹50₹55 per liter to the cost of E20 ethanol-blended petrol as per the applicable policies, guidelines and recommendations of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and other competent authorities.
Congress protests over ethanol-blended petrol
Let us tell you that the political turmoil regarding this matter is also intense. On Friday, the Indian Youth Congress protested against the E20 ethanol-blended petrol policy. Alleged that the government is taking such steps which cause damage to vehicles and benefit to ethanol manufacturing companies. A sugarcane juice machine was brought to the protest as a symbol of ethanol production. During this, the protesters also threw fake notes of Rs 200 in the air.
