
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presided over Delhi Next – Code, Create and Change at the Secretariat on Thursday. The government claims that this is the country’s largest civic-tech innovation program. Its objective is to develop technology-based solutions to the real civic and urban challenges of the capital by bringing together youth, startups, researchers, educational institutions and innovators on one platform. The Chief Minister said that today governance cannot be limited to just making policies, but the need of the hour is to solve problems through technology, innovation and public participation. Delhi Next is not just a hackathon, but a bridge between governance and innovation, which will directly connect the ideas of the youth with the government system.
The Chief Minister said that the youth of the country have immense talent. If they get the right platform, accurate guidance and appropriate opportunities, they can bring about a big change in the administrative system. With this thinking in mind, the Delhi government is considering the youth as its equal partners in good governance. Youth are our brightest present to achieve the mission of developed India.
Rekha Gupta said that traditional hackathons often end with prize distribution but the specialty of Delhi Next is that here the selected solutions will not only be showcased, but they will be implemented as pilot projects in collaboration with the concerned government departments. Successful models will be integrated into government functioning.
Technology based solutions to challenges
According to the Delhi government, this innovation program focused on finding solutions to the real civic problems of Delhi. The participants developed innovation based solutions in various areas like urban infrastructure, waterlogging, traffic management, smart parking, air pollution, waste management, electric vehicle ecosystem, citizen grievance redressal, digital governance and citizen services.
Winners will get guidance
The top 60 teams selected under Delhi Next will be given special support and guidance in future also. Every team will be linked to the concerned government department. You will get mentorship from experts. Their solution will be pilot tested. A clear roadmap will be prepared to implement successful projects in the government system.
Delhi will become the country’s civic-tech capital
The Chief Minister said that the government aims to establish the capital as the civic-tech capital of the country. The governments of the future will not just run governance, but provide more effective, transparent and accountable governance through data, AI, digital innovation and citizen engagement. Delhi Next is an important and visionary step of the Delhi government towards that future.
