The march of Punjab farmers to Delhi organized on Tuesday to protest against the trade deal between America and India was postponed. After 3 pm, farmers started returning from Shambhu border. After the consensus reached after the meeting of Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana with farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher and other farmer leaders, the farmers who came from Punjab started returning.
Delhi-Jalandhar National Highway will be opened soon after the farmers’ buses and vehicles are removed from the National Highway. before this Farmer A meeting of the leaders of the organizations was held with Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana under the leadership of farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher.
Sarwan Singh Pandher said after the meeting that Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Rana has assured us to hold talks with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chauhan on the issue of trade deal.
He said that we have also demanded the early release of Haryana farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni and other arrested leaders. Both our demands have been accepted, now we will discuss with our leaders and take further decision.
The government accepted the demands of the farmers
Farmer leader Dilbagh Singh Dirajke told that he met Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana. In the meeting, demands were made for the release of the arrested farmer leaders and a meeting with the central government. Consensus has been reached on both the demands. Therefore, the protest has been postponed for now.
Farmers had reached Shambhu border between Patiala and Ambala and Khanauri border between Sangrur and Jind since morning to go to Kisan Ghat in Delhi. As soon as the information was received, Haryana Police placed barricades on both the borders and sealed them. Due to this the farmers were stopped from moving forward. Heavy police force was deployed from Haryana side on both the borders. JCB machines were also deployed there to stop any type of temporary or permanent construction.
Ambala police implemented section 163
Seeing this the farmers of Punjab sat there. Considering the situation, preparations were being made to hold a permanent protest there. Kisan Mazdoor Morcha convenor Sarwan Pandher led it. Seeing the crowd of farmers, Ambala Police imposed Section 163.
Farmers have been warned to stay 100 meters away from the barricade. Meanwhile, due to closure of Shambhu border, traffic on Jalandhar-Delhi National Highway has come to a standstill. In view of this, Haryana Police has diverted the traffic. Police have said that in any emergency call 112.
Due to farmers’ agitation, Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border located on NH-44 (GT Road) remained closed for 13 months. After being sealed on February 13, 2024, it was reopened on March 20, 2025, on the orders of the High Court. Now it has been closed again.
