These days Delhi is under the blanket of monsoon. Yesterday there was heavy rain in many parts of Delhi, which is providing relief from the heat. Apart from this, another special thing is that due to rain, the air of Delhi has also become clean. Apart from this, Delhi has been ranked 120th in the recently released Global Liveability Index. That means Delhi has become a better place to live than many other big cities of the country. After Delhi comes Mumbai (121), Chennai (123) and Bengaluru (127).
If we look at the world’s best livable city, it is Copenhagen. This Danish city has got first place in the Global Liveability Index. It has left behind Vienna (Austria) and Melbourne (Australia). These countries are at second and third position.
On what basis was the ranking given?
173 cities were assessed in the ‘Economist Intelligence Unit Global Liveability Index 2026’ released this week. They were ranked on the basis of living facilities here. While there was no change in the ranking of New Delhi and Mumbai compared to last year, the ranking of 10 cities of China has improved compared to 2025.
The report said Western Europe is still the best region to live in, but its average score has remained stable, while Asia’s score has increased. “The Iran war has undermined stability in the entire Gulf region.”
Not a single country from India is in the top 100
No city of India is included in the top 100 cities of the world. Urban systems here are still struggling in matters like healthcare, infrastructure and air quality.
