Delhi: Illegal market of goats was being set up in the park, MCD canceled the permission.

May 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Preparations are being made for the festival of Bakrid across the country. At many places, goats are being marketed for sacrifice. One such market was being set up in Nehru Hill Park, Delhi, whose recognition has been cancelled. MCD has canceled the permission of Nehru Hill Park. The allegation was that an illegal goat market was being organized in the park. BJP leader Amit Gupta along with a delegation met Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and complained about this. He had demanded cancellation of the allocation made by MCD.

According to the information, the delegation had alleged that there is no mention of setting up a goat market anywhere in the allotment receipt, this is clearly a case of legitimizing the illegal by threatening the Municipal Corporation officials and getting the receipt cut. After the complaint, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the delegation of appropriate action. After which action was taken by MCD and the recognition of the park was cancelled.

Goat market set up in Nehru Hill Park

The delegation alleged that the Delhi Municipal Corporation officials, under the pressure of anti-social elements belonging to some minority community of Mata Sundari Road area of Delhi Gate ward, have allotted Nehru Hill Park located at Ramlila Maidan to a fake RWA. There is anger among the citizens of all the communities of the area. According to the allegations, from around May 8, some anti-social elements occupied Nehru Hill Park for the first time and opened a goat market for Eid by tying goats there.

Complaint was also made in the police station

Earlier, the Horticulture Department of the Urban Area of Delhi Municipal Corporation had tried twice to get the illegal encroachment vacated from the park by filing a complaint in the concerned police station, but the encroachment was not vacated.

Allegation of putting pressure on MLA Ale Mohammad

It is alleged that the MCD, possibly under the pressure of anti-social elements and local MLA Aale Mohammad, took Rs 1 lakh 7 thousand from Nehru Hill Park from May 21 to 27. The name of a person named Akhlaq has been allotted to a fake RWA. After which there is huge resentment among the citizens of Mata Sundari Road, Gandhi Market and Minto Road. It is being told that there is no mention of setting up a goat market anywhere in the receipt, it is clearly a case of legalizing the illegal by threatening the Municipal Corporation officials and getting the receipt cut.

Amit Gupta said that in the last 70 years, there was never a goat market in this Nehru Hill Park in this area with mixed population and today when the Delhi government is clearly saying that goats will not be allowed to be slaughtered in any public place, then the allocation of the park by the Municipal Corporation is wrong. He said that we have demanded the Chief Minister to cancel it and he has assured us of taking appropriate action.
