
The meeting of the Standing Committee of Parliament related to the Defense Ministry was held on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by MP Radha Mohan Singh and the agenda of the meeting was ‘Role of the Indian Army in ensuring the defense of the country’. In the meeting CDS General N. S. Under the leadership of Raja Subramani, top army officers informed about the steps taken by the Indian Army to protect the country. The committee was briefed about military deployment on the border and presence of the army in strategically important areas.
According to sources, Army officials told the committee that adequate number of soldiers have been deployed in border areas and places of strategic importance, so that any nefarious conspiracy of anti-national elements can be foiled. During this, the committee was also given information on military deployment, disaster management and other related issues for internal security in Jammu and Kashmir and North-Eastern region. Apart from this, the committee was also informed about the new and modern technologies adopted by the army.
The committee also held a meeting in April-May
Earlier in May, the Committee had held a meeting on consolidation of defense land by the Defense Estate Organization and the functioning of Cantonment Boards and before that in April, the Committee had reviewed the functioning of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in creating infrastructure at strategic locations and border areas.
Took stock of army’s preparations
Apart from this, in March, a committee comprising 21 members of Lok Sabha and 10 members of Rajya Sabha had taken stock of the preparedness of the Army for modern warfare and recommended the Defense Ministry to make every possible effort to find new ways to achieve the goal of making India impenetrable during future war-like situations. In its report given in the Parliament, the committee had said that in order to remain strong in the war system that has changed in recent times, there is a need to prepare for hybrid war including kinetic and non-kinetic war.
Development of 6G aircraft is necessary
The report said that in view of the technological advancement of fighter aircraft globally and to enhance the combat capability of the aircraft to meet the current security scenario, their technical upgradation is the top priority. The committee recommended the Ministry to prepare a guideline in this regard and take forward the planning process for development and acquisition of 6G aircraft, which will enhance India’s air capabilities in today’s highly air-centric modern warfare.
