Along with Rajya Sabha, elections are also being held for Bihar Legislative Council. Today is Monday the last date for nomination for 10 seats of the Legislative Council. But Bihar government minister Deepak Prakash will not be able to file nomination because NDA has not made him its candidate. In such a situation, his ministerial post is in danger because he is not a member of any house right now.
Former Union Minister Deepak Prakash, son of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) President Upendra Kushwaha, will not be able to file his nomination for the Legislative Council. He has not been made a candidate by NDA, whereas other 9 candidates will file nominations together today. All the candidates including Bhojpuri singers Pawan Singh and Nishant Kumar will file papers in the Assembly today.
Deepak Prakash did not get candidature
Nominations will be filed by 4 candidates each from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal United (JDU) and one candidate from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas Paswan). Whereas candidate Sunil Singh has filed nomination from Rashtriya Janata Dal. Although Deepak Prakash’s name is not included in these 10 candidates, his ministerial post seems to be in danger. He is not a member of any house right now and as per the rules, he will have to become a member of some house or the other within about 6 months of becoming a minister.
On not giving ticket to Deepak Prakash, party MLA Alok Singh said that this is the decision of the top level of NDA alliance, we are with NDA.

On the other hand, Rashtriya Lok Morcha President Upendra Kushwaha yesterday expressed happiness over the entry of Janata Dal United (JDU) chief Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar into politics, but expressed disappointment over his inclusion in the cabinet without giving him the status of Deputy Chief Minister.
Deepak also included in the cabinet along with Nishant
Kushwaha, who was once close to Nitish Kumar and is a Rajya Sabha MP, said on Sunday, “I stand strongly with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and will continue to do so. I was among the first people to support Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in 2014, but the truth is that we have no ideological affiliation with the BJP, rather our ideology matches that of the JDU. My sympathies are still with the same movement.
Kushwaha left JDU in 2023. Then he had alleged that a deal had been struck to merge the party with Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). He said, “Even before anyone in JDU asked me to do so, I was advocating for Nishant to enter politics. I believed that only Nishant could be the true political successor of my father.” He said, “I am happy that Nishant has finally become a minister but I am disappointed that he agreed just to become a minister. He should have got the post of Deputy Chief Minister.”
Incidentally, his son Deepak Prakash is also included in the cabinet along with Nishant. On one hand, Nishant is preparing to contest the Legislative Council elections and confirm his place in the cabinet, while on the other hand, Deepak Prakash’s future is in limbo. While talking to the media yesterday, Upendra Kushwaha hinted that he is still hopeful that RLM will get a seat in the Legislative Council.
