Deal with Iran, Hormuz and oil price… What did Trump say about Tehran?

June 17, 2026 by Uma Shankar

US President Donald Trump has again given a big statement on Iran in Evian, France. During the G7 press conference, Trump said that talks are ongoing regarding the Iran deal. To a large extent the matter has been completed. With this deal, oil prices will come down like before. During this, Trump also claimed that the agreement with Iran has increased confidence in the markets and its effect is visible. He said that the Strait of Hormuz will open completely in the next one or two days. According to him, the movement of ships on the sea route is gradually becoming normal.

Trump’s claim regarding oil prices

Trump made a big claim regarding the oil market and said that if the situation becomes normal and the Strait of Hormuz opens completely, then the prices of crude oil can go down even below the February level.

If an agreement is reached between America and Iran and the supply of Iranian oil increases in the global market, then pressure on crude oil prices may increase. This can provide relief to big oil importing countries like India, because low oil prices will reduce the import bill and inflationary pressure.

achieved the set target

Trump further said that the G7 is one of the most successful conferences ever and could not have happened at a better time for the deal with Iran. Trump said that on Sunday we made an agreement with Iran, in which we achieved all the goals that we had set. Or we should say much more than that. Trump also took the name of Iran commander Qasim Sulemani.

Qasim Suleimani was Iran’s Major General in the ‘Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ and was mainly responsible for military and covert operations outside Iran’s country. Trump said that if Suleimani had not been killed, this deal would not have been possible. Talks on the deal started only after he was killed in the war. After which the deal has become possible today.

The agreement is not final yet, talks are ongoing

Trump claimed this ends the current standoff, reopens the Strait of Hormuz and prevents Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Actually, that was our aim. Trump has said that this agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) is not final and he can withdraw from it. Talks are ongoing on this, a deal will be done soon.

200 million bombs were dropped in the last days of the war

Meanwhile, on a question from the media, Trump claimed that America had dropped bombs worth 200 million on Iran in the last two days of the war. In a way, Iran’s weapons and nuclear items were completely destroyed. Now Iran is not in a position to wage war like before. His weapons are also completely destroyed. This is the reason why he has now agreed to the deal.
