DDA takes action after NGT and High Court orders, crisis deepens in Yamuna market

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has once again issued a notice to the residents of Yamuna Bazaar situated on the banks of Yamuna to vacate the area by June 23 i.e. today. If this is not done, then DDA can run bulldozers on 24th June i.e. Wednesday. According to the notice, residents of Yamuna Bazaar have been told that they can take shelter in the night shelter.

If the notice is not heeded, strict action will be taken to vacate the ghat area. In a public notice issued on June 23, residents of Ghat No. 2 to 32 of Yamuna Bazaar have been informed that as per the directions given to DDA in connection with NGT Case No. 06/2012 (January 13, 2015), it is necessary to remove all illegal encroachments from the floodplain area of ​​Yamuna River under the jurisdiction of DDA.

According to the Delhi High Court order dated August 2, 2022 (Case No. 6779/2021 – Shakarpur Slum Union vs. Delhi Development Authority and others), “The affected families can avail the facility of temporary shelter (night shelter) provided by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).” Therefore, families living at ghat numbers 02 to 32 of Yamuna Bazaar can temporarily take shelter in any of the night shelters of DUSIB.

DDA’s last warning

Delhi Development Authority officials requested the residents of this area to vacate the place by 23/06/2026. Failing to do so, they will themselves be responsible for any loss caused by the encroachment removal action taken on or after 24/06/2026.
