
MP Datia By-Election 2026: The date of by-election in Madhya Pradesh’s high profile seat Datia has been announced. Voting will be held in Datia on 30th July and results will be declared on 3rd August. Congress MLA from Datia Rajendra Bharti was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment by the special MP-MLA court of Delhi in a case related to about 28-year-old co-operative bank fraud and manipulation of documents.
After the court’s decision, the MP Assembly Secretariat issued an order to cancel his membership from April 2, 2026 and declared Datia seat vacant. Today i.e. on July 2, the Election Commission announced the dates of by-elections. Let us tell you that according to Section 8 of the Public Representation Act, 1951, if an MLA or MP is sentenced to 2 years or more, his membership ceases.
Narottam Mishra may get a chance again
Let us tell you that BJP got a bumper victory in the 2023 assembly elections but many ministers could not save their credibility. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra was also included among those ministers. Congress’s Rajendra Bharti defeated Narottam Mishra by about 7,742 votes. Earlier, former Home Minister Narottam Mishra was the MLA from this seat. Let us tell you that by-election has to be held on the vacant seat within 6 months.
Election Result:
- Rajendra Bharti (Congress): 88,977 votes
- Dr. Narottam Mishra (BJP): 81,235 votes
- Margin of victory: 7,742 votes
Know about Narottam Mishra
Dr. Narottam Mishra is one of the prominent faces of BJP in Madhya Pradesh. He has held many positions including Home Minister. Started political journey from student life. Joined BJP’s student wing and Yuva Morcha in the late 1970s. He was the secretary of Jiwaji University Students Union. In 1990, he was elected MLA from Dabra, Gwalior. After this, he won from Dabra in 1998 and 2003 also. Won from Datia consecutively in 2008, 2013 and 2018. Dr. Narottam Mishra is a total 6-time MLA. He has held ministerial posts in many departments since 2008.
