Assurance to bring Dalits in lead role

Because of this, Dalit casteist parties emerged and Dalits moved away from Congress. In such a situation, now we are changing things, Dalits will now play the lead role. In the meeting, SC Department Chairman Rajendra Pal Gautam assured Rahul Gandhi that we are moving forward on the path that Rahul Gandhi is showing.

Let us tell you that assembly elections are to be held in five states early next year. In view of this, Congress is planning a nationwide outreach programme, which aims to unite Dalits through a joint initiative of the party’s Scheduled Castes (SC).

Effort to unite Dalits

Congress leaders believe that the party’s “Save Constitution” campaign led by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections had gained support among Dalits, especially in Uttar Pradesh, and helped the party perform better at the national level.

Congress won 99 Lok Sabha seats in 2024, while the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh won 43 of the 80 seats in the state, with the BJP winning 33 seats, up from 62 in 2019. Party leaders argue that the support of Dalits played an important role in the performance of the opposition alliance in the state.
