July 25, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Pinki Singh, Commonwealth Games 2026: Indian lawn bowls players have maintained their excellent rhythm in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. In their second match of the Women’s Pairs Competition (Section B), India’s legendary pair Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinky Singh registered their second consecutive win by defeating South Africa 2-0 (6-4, 7-5). Earlier in the opening match, the Indian pair had achieved a thrilling win against Malta in the tie-breaker. With two consecutive wins, India’s medal hopes have become stronger, and at the center of this success stands 45-year-old experienced player Pinky Singh.

Journey from cricket coach to lawn balls champion

45-year-old Pinky Singh is one of India’s most experienced athletes in the Commonwealth Games 2026. She was also a part of the Indian lawn bowls team that won the historic gold medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Pinky Singh’s sports career did not start directly with lawn balls. He started in the world of sports as a cricket coach. In the year 2007, he started working as a cricket coach in Delhi Public School (DPS). During this time, he learned about lawn balls, after which he started playing it and made a place among the most successful players of the country.

The stress of divorce and the historic comeback of 2022

The personal life of Pinky Singh, who created history on the field, has gone through a lot of difficulties. In an interview, while mentioning his biggest challenge, he had said that the year 2022 was the most difficult period of his life, when the team was to be selected for the Commonwealth Games. Actually, they got married in the year 2019, but in 2020 itself, the relationship started turning sour. Then in 2021, they filed for divorce and after legal delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, their divorce was finalized in 2022. Despite that difficult mental stress and disintegration of personal life, he controlled himself, practiced hard and won a historic gold medal for India in Birmingham 2022.

Pinky has also won three gold medals in the Asian Lawn Bowls Championship in 2017 (Triples), 2023 (Force) and 2025 (Triples). Apart from this, she has also won one silver and two bronze medals in this competition. Pinky Singh has also won bronze medal in Asia Pacific Games. Now in Glasgow 2026 also, the whole country is once again expecting golden success from Pinky Singh.
