Cow carcasses found lying open in Jaisalmer dumping yard, created ruckus; notice to contractor

The dumping yard located in Badabagh area, just 5 kilometers away from Jaisalmer city, is once again in the news. While the villagers had been protesting against the construction of dumping yard near the populated area for a long time, in the last Lok Sabha elections the villagers of Badabagh had expressed their objection by boycotting the voting. Due to voting not happening till 2 pm, people started voting after assurance from Lok Sabha candidates Ravindra Singh Bhati, Umedaram Beniwal and Kailash Choudhary.

Big promises were made by the public representatives, but after the elections were over dumping yard The matter was kept in abeyance, but after two years the dumping yard has once again come into discussion, but this time the matter is about the carcasses of dead cows. There is a lot of anger among the people regarding this and after this reaction of the people, the Municipal Council Commissioner has also issued a show cause notice to the contractor.

Outrage over dead cattle carcasses in Jaisalmer dumping yard

In fact, a case of cow carcasses being left scattered in the open in this dumping yard of the Municipal Council has come to light. The matter started two days ago when Shri Karni Gau Raksha Seva Dal President Hakam Dan made the video of dead cattle carcasses in the dumping yard viral, in which he had asked Shiv MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati to reach the spot regarding the cattle carcasses lying in the open and take action against the concerned officials.

This video, viral on social media, has raised serious questions on the functioning of the Municipal Council administration, the contractors who pick up dead animals and the concerned responsibilities.

A large number of dead cattle carcasses are seen lying in a disorganized condition on the spot. This scene has also hurt the sentiments of the people, after which the local people expressed sharp reaction on social media regarding the working style of the Municipal Council.

Notice issued to contractor

After the matter gained momentum, the Municipal Council administration came into action. On behalf of Council Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha, a notice has been issued to the contractor who picked up the dead bodies of animals, in which it has been clarified that as per the prescribed procedure, the dead animals should have been disposed of in a timely and scientific manner. But serious irregularities have come to light in this.

After the notice issued by the Municipal Council administration, the contractor hurriedly started disposing of the dead bodies scattered in the dumping yard. There itself. Council Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha says that this work will be completed in a few hours. The question is that if the matter had not come to light, would this situation have continued like this?

This case has exposed the reality of the monitoring system and cleaning system of the Municipal Council. On the other hand, the Municipal Council has issued a show cause notice to the contractor for negligence in the work of picking up dead animals and disposal of bones. In the notice issued by the council, it has been said that throwing dead animals in the open is polluting the environment and there is anger among the local people.

Negligence of city council exposed

People say that on one hand, tall claims are made regarding cow protection and cleanliness, while on the other hand, arrangements are not being made for respectable disposal of dead cows. In the scorching heat, the risk of foul smell and infection from dead bodies lying in the open has also increased. Local people have termed it as administrative negligence as well as inhuman insensitivity.

According to the information, the contract work of lifting dead animals, leather and bones for the financial year 2025-26 has been given to Goparam, a resident of Barmer district, for about Rs 18 lakh. It has been mentioned in the notice that earlier instructions were given to bury the dead animals by digging a pit in the dumping yard, but despite this the rules are being ignored. The Council has instructed the contractor to submit his explanation regarding the notice and not to be negligent in the future.
