The politics of the state has heated up over the case of rape and murder of a 12 year old girl in Baruipur of South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The security at the residence of former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee was increased ahead of her visit to Baruipur. Security forces have been deployed outside the residence. TMC has raised serious questions on the Center and the administration, calling it a political move. TMC described this move as an attempt to hinder Banerjee from meeting the victim’s family.
After this heart-wrenching incident in Baruipur, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter. TMC MP from Jadavpur Sayani Ghosh gave this information on social media. He said that SIT has been formed to ensure fair investigation of the case. Along with this, he said that he has also talked to Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari regarding this matter.

TMC raised questions on deployment of central forces
TMC leaders expressed strong objection to the presence of central security forces outside Mamata Banerjee’s residence. Party MP Dola Sen alleged whether an attempt is being made to put Mamata Banerjee under house arrest. He called it super emergency.
#WATCH | Kolkata, West Bengal: TMC MP Dola Sen says, “What is going on in Bengal, Kolkata? Everyone knows what happened in Baruipur… Didi (Mamata Banerjee) is a mass leader… She wanted to go there after such a heinous incident happened… But have they house arrested her?… https://t.co/yYwlPYZvhM pic.twitter.com/QyxPeg5Z58

‘Mamata Banerjee is a people’s leader…’
While talking to journalists, Dola Sen said, ‘What is happening in Bengal and Kolkata? Everyone knows what happened in Baruipur. Didi (Mamata Banerjee) is a public leader. After such a terrible incident, she wanted to go there. But have they put him under house arrest? Will they be able to stop Didi by doing this? So many police officers are deployed here without any reason. Whatever the police administration is doing is not right.
‘The voice of justice cannot be suppressed’
TMC leader Madan Mitra also criticized the administration regarding security arrangements. He said that Mamata Banerjee is meeting party workers at her residence and the voice of the public cannot be suppressed. He said that just as the demand for justice was raised in the RG Kar Hospital case, similarly the Baruipur victim should also get justice. He said that you cannot continue committing unilateral atrocities while silently ignoring the public, this method does not work.
Abhishek Banerjee’s sharp attack on BJP
Meanwhile, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also targeted BJP over this incident. He alleged that the party has failed to fulfill its promise of ensuring the safety of women. Sharing a post on social media, Abhishek Banerjee said, ‘BJP is not only failing women, but it is also creating an environment where those accused of heinous crimes start believing that they have political protection. Where political connections seem to influence justice. Where influence appears to be more influential than the rule of law. Where this worrying question arises whether political pressure is overpowering justice. This is the real tragedy behind the Baruipur massacre!’.
.@BJP4India doesn’t just fail women, it fosters a climate where those accused of heinous crimes appear to believe they enjoy political protection.
Where political connections seem to influence justice.
Where influence appears to speak louder than the rule of law.

‘This is a very shameful situation…’
Abhishek Banerjee also said, ‘BJP had come to Bengal with the promise of women’s safety. But every incident is raising new questions on his empty promises. The silence is equally irritating. No protest, no outrage, no demand for accountability, no demand for resignation, no awakening of conscience. When justice becomes selective and outrage becomes political, not only the victim suffers, but society also has to pay the price. This is a very shameful situation.
Alarming visuals from the same lane outside the homes of @MamataOfficial and @abhishekaitc in Kalighat. Why are central forces being deployed to restrict freedom of movement and confine them to their homes. Route march happening now. Confinement using force! pic.twitter.com/Kp7ThPJqFl

Derek O’Brien expressed displeasure
Meanwhile, senior TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien claimed that more than 10 police vehicles were deliberately deployed in the narrow lane outside Mamata Banerjee’s residence to stop her movement. Sharing a post on social media, the MP said, ‘For hours, more than ten police cars have been deliberately parked in the narrow lane just outside Mamata Banerjee’s house. This is a clever ploy to block the street and prevent them from leaving their homes to meet the family of the girl who was brutally raped and murdered in Baruipur’.
