Confusion over Bakrid holiday ended, NSE told when the market will be closed

May 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

If you invest or trade in the stock market, then this information is very important for you. National Stock Exchange (NSE) has released the official holiday list regarding Bakrid. According to this, the Indian stock market will remain closed on Thursday, 28 May 2026, on the occasion of Bakrid.

There will be no trading of any kind in both NSE and BSE exchanges on this day. That means operations in equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives and SLB segments will remain completely closed.

Market will open normally on May 27

There is often confusion among investors regarding festival holidays. But according to the updated information of NSE, the stock market will open like normal on 27 May 2026. On this day, all types of trading will continue regularly and investors will be able to buy and sell.

This means that investors will have to make their strategy as usual for May 27, whereas no trading will be possible on May 28.

Why is this update important for investors?

Information about market holidays is very important for every trader and investor. Especially those doing intraday trading, futures and options (F&O) and short-term investing have to plan their positions in advance.

By having correct information about holidays, investors can handle their fund management and risk planning in a better way and can avoid the situation of sudden market closure.

Trading schedule may be different in MCX

The schedule of the commodity market i.e. Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) is slightly different from the stock market. Many times the morning session of MCX remains closed during festivals, while the evening session remains open.

However, a separate detailed circular can be issued by MCX for Bakrid 2026. In the past years too, it has been seen many times that morning trading remained closed, but the market reopened after 5 pm.
