It was included in the United Nations sanctions list on 17 October 2001.

At the same time, LeT i.e. Lashkar-e-Taiba is responsible for many attacks in India including the 2008 Mumbai attacks. It was also declared a foreign terrorist organization by America in 2001. According to Indian security agencies, TRF was created by LeT handlers to carry out Pakistan-backed terrorist activities in J&K and then avoid international investigation.
