
Activist Sonam Wangchuk started the fight for reforms in the education system with a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. He ended his 26-day hunger strike on 23 July. Now this morning he has shared another message through video on social media. He said that the hunger strike is over, but accountability has begun…! Wangchuk said he received assurance from the government and MPs from all political parties that the issue of accountability in the deteriorating examination system will be discussed in the Indian Parliament.
Wangchuk said that the government also assured that due to the recent leak of NEET exam papers, appropriate compensation will be given to the families of those who committed suicide and no case will be registered against the students and youth who were protesting peacefully.

Assurance received from the party and opposition for discussion on the House
Wangchuk told that about 65 MPs from different political parties came and gave signatures and asked him to break the fast. He told that all the MPs who came have assured him that they will raise this issue in the House and discuss it. Wangchuk said that the ministers from the government have also assured him to talk on this topic. Wangchuk said that he was waiting for this assurance in writing, hence he had to extend the deadline of his fast.
PM Modi prayed for Wangchuk’s good health
Hours after Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged him to follow medical advice and get his health back on track. PM Modi said in a post on social media, “I urge Sonam ji to follow the advice of doctors in her everyday life and get her old weight back as soon as possible. I pray to God for her good health.”

He said, “The culprits have been caught and they are in jail. Our most important responsibility was to ensure that not even a single year of the students was wasted. It was very important to conduct the examinations immediately. I instructed the departments for fast-track courts.”
