Soman Rana has been selected for the Commonwealth Games 2026 to be held in Glasgow, Scotland. He is one of the two para players who will represent India in this mega multi-sports event, bringing glory to Bihar.

Lost my leg in service to the country, but my spirits remained high

This journey of Soman Rana is a unique story of struggle and bravery. In 2006, he was hit by a landmine blast during a search operation against terrorists in the Poonch area of ​​Jammu and Kashmir. He had to lose his right leg in this terrible accident. Despite such a huge physical and mental tragedy, he did not accept defeat. After recovering from the hospital, he once again returned to his unit and camp to serve the country.

Let us tell you, in the year 2012, he met some para athletes of the army, who recognized the passion and passion hidden within him. With the inspiration of these players, Soman decided to enter para sports. With the guidance and support of senior officers of his battalion and the headquarters, he reached the Army Paralympic Node in Pune, where he started his professional training. On the basis of disciplined training of the army and his hard work, he made his own identity at the national and international level in a very short time.

Big achievements of Soman Rana so far

He made the country proud by winning the silver medal in the Asian Paralympic Games 2023. After this, he finished 5th in the Paris Paralympics 2024, performing brilliantly on the world’s biggest sports stage. At the same time, last year in Khelo India Games 2025, he won the gold medal on the basis of his excellent performance.

Belongs to farmer family

Soman Rana, resident of Lakkhibagh locality of Gayaji district of Bihar, was born in an ordinary farmer family. His father Son Bahadur Rana used to support the family by farming. The father wanted his son to get a government job after studying. Soman completed his early studies from Gaya and on the basis of his hard work, fulfilled his father’s dream by joining the Indian Army as a soldier.
