Commonwealth Games 2026: No training kit, no opening ceremony dress! Indian boxing team’s belongings missing

July 21, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Commonwealth Games 2026: The Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 23 July to 2 August. Earlier in the year 2014 also, Glasgow had organized the Commonwealth Games. This time, a total of 3,000 athletes from 74 countries will participate in these games which will last for 11 days, in which 126 athletes from India will take the field to win medals. But just before the start of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, the Indian boxing team has to face a big problem. Almost half of the luggage of the 22-member Indian boxing team, which reached Glasgow after completing its training camp in Belfast, has been left behind at the Belfast Airport.

Indian boxing team’s belongings missing

Apart from the training kit required for the players’ practice, the missing bags also include the official and ceremonial dresses for the opening ceremony to be held on Thursday. According to the members of the Indian team, the plane flying between Belfast and Glasgow was very small, due to which the entire luggage could not be loaded simultaneously. The players whose luggage was left behind include world champion Jasmine Lamboria, Sakshi Choudhary, Parveen Hooda, Jadumani Singh, Kapil Pokharia and men’s head coach C. Kattappa.

Such negligence happened for the second time

The shocking thing is that this kind of negligence has happened to the Indian boxing team for the second time in a row. In the same month, when this team left for Belfast from Doha, similar irregularities were seen from the airlines’ side. Apart from this, the team management has expressed concern over another flaw. Women boxers’ coach Mandakini Chanu has not been given a room in the hotel where other boxers are staying, due to which there is difficulty in maintaining coordination between the coach and the players.

Competitions are to start from Friday

Boxing competitions in the Commonwealth Games are going to start from Friday (July 24). In such a situation, the Indian team hopes that before the practice and preparations get underway, their left luggage will reach Glasgow safely, so that the players can start their campaigns without any mental stress.
