Come together, we will welcome you… TMC’s rebel group made an offer to Mamata Banerjee, what position will she get?

June 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After the change of power in West Bengal, the politics of the state remains in the headlines. 20 MPs of Trinamool Congress (TMC) rebelled and formed a separate faction, due to which the ongoing conflict within the party came to the fore. Meanwhile, on Monday, rebel group leader Ritabrata Banerjee has given an offer to Mamata Banerjee. He said that if Mamata wants, she can become the chief advisor of the rebel group, we will welcome her.

This statement of Ritabrata Banerjee came when on Monday the rebel group declared itself the real TMC and announced the removal of Mamata Banerjee from the post of party chairperson and suspension of Abhishek Banerjee. Which is being considered a big blow for Mamata Banerjee.

Mamta Banerjee offered to become chief advisor

After the special session of rebel TMC leaders in Kolkata, Ritabrata Banerjee adopted a conciliatory attitude towards the former Chief Minister of West Bengal despite the growing internal rebellion. Talking to the media, he said that if Mamata Banerjee wants to become the chief advisor, then she is heartily welcome. This session was called amid an attempt to snatch control of the party from Mamata Banerjee.

Arup Roy was elected the new president of the party

On Monday, the rebel camp formally elected MLA Arup Roy as the new president of the party, which is being seen as the biggest challenge yet to Mamata Banerjee’s authority within the TMC. Ritabrata Banerjee said that Roy was unanimously elected president in the special session. Former minister Arup Biswas and MLAs Firhad Hakim, Rathin Ghosh and Sabina Yasmin were made vice-presidents.

Ritabrata Banerjee appointed General Secretary

Ritabrata Banerjee, Javed Khan and Sandipan Saha were appointed general secretaries, while Raghunathganj MLA Akhruzzaman Ansari was made the treasurer. Ritabrata defended the legality of the meeting, saying the faction would formally inform the Election Commission about the decisions taken during the session.

‘It is the job of the Election Commission to decide right and wrong’

Ritabrata Banerjee said that ‘It is not a question of real or fake. We are TMC and will inform the Election Commission about the proceedings of today’s special session. He said, ‘We worked as per the rules and organized a special session. It is the job of the Election Commission to decide what is right and what is wrong.

Rebellion in TMC after defeat

The crisis in TMC has deepened after the crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. In the same month, 58 out of 80 party MLAs had supported Ritabrata Banerjee’s claim to be the leader of the opposition and rejected the leadership choice. This turmoil has also spread to Parliament where a group of TMC MPs broke away from the party’s parliamentary wing and supported the BJP-led NDA.
