
The Indian Coast Guard once again proved its slogan of Vayam Raksham true by saving the lives of 6 fishermen stranded in the sea on Monday evening. Amidst bad weather and high waves, Coast Guard Ship Sachet reached within 90 minutes and evacuated everyone safely.
How did the accident happen?
On June 29, around 4 pm, a distress message was received on VHF from fishing boat IFB Manju Matha, 33 nautical miles off Suratkal coast. The boat was filling with water rapidly and its body was cracked. Due to rough sea, the lives of 6 fishermen were in danger.
Help arrived within 90 minutes
As soon as the message was received, the Indian Coast Guard immediately sent its ship ICGS Sachet to the spot. The ship reached the boat in just 90 minutes. The conditions at that time were very difficult, with strong winds, high waves, less light and increasing darkness at night.
The Coast Guard team used remote-operated lifebuoys specially made for bad weather. With their help all 6 fishermen were safely boarded on the ship. The entire rescue operation was over by 6 pm. No fisherman was injured. After the rescue, ICGS is reaching New Mangalore port with all the fishermen on alert. There his medical examination and further formalities will be completed.
