
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday met the families who lost their relatives in the tragic incident of building collapse in Saidulajab at Delhi Secretariat and the horrific fire incident in Hauz Rani in Malviya Nagar and handed over ex-gratia assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to them. During this, the Chief Minister expressed deep condolences towards the deceased in both the incidents and said that such unbearable grief cannot be expressed in words.
She further said that as a mother, a daughter and a public servant, she can deeply feel the pain and suffering of these families. The Chief Minister said that the culprits involved in these accidents will not be spared. He also said that such incidents will be avoided in future.
Government is taking concrete steps
The Chief Minister said that the loss of precious lives lost in the building collapse incident at Saidulajab on May 30 and the fire at Hauz Rani on June 3 can never be compensated. In the tragedy of Saidulajab, we lost such promising youth who had dreams of a bright future in their eyes, while the Hauz Rani fire took away from us two generations of the same family. This is the sorrow not only of the affected families but of the entire society. On this occasion, MLA from Malviya Nagar Satish Upadhyay and senior officials of the concerned department were also present.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta told the victims’ families that she has no words that can ease their grief and pain. No government in the world and no amount of money can bring back a person’s loved ones. One life can have no value, but in this difficult time, the Delhi government stands firmly with the suffering families like a family. He assured that those responsible for this tragic incident will not be spared under any circumstances and the causes of the accidents will be seriously investigated and strict action will be taken against the culprits as per rules.
Ex-gratia amount given to these people
On this occasion, the Chief Minister provided ex-gratia assistance to the families of those killed in the Saidulajab building collapse incident. These include Ramesh Chandra, father of late Ekta Chaudhary, Ram Prakash, father of late Ravi Prakash Verma, Rajesh Kumar, father of late Kapil, Sanjay Kumar, father of late Nalin, Satyavan Verma, father of late Alok and Jai Raj Ojha, husband of late Parvati Ojha.

The Chief Minister also handed over assistance to the families of the victims of the Hauz Rani fire. In these, ex-gratia assistance was provided to Saroj Devi, wife of late Ashok Kumar Goyal, late Kamala Agarwal and late Jawari Lal Agarwal, his son Sachin Agarwal and Ramesh Prasad on behalf of late Shrutika Baranwal. The atmosphere during the meeting was very emotional.
Family members shared their grief with CM
The families of those who lost their loved ones in both the incidents shared their grief before the Chief Minister. Many family members became emotional and their eyes became moist. The victims’ families also placed their concerns regarding the administrative arrangements and emergency response system before the Chief Minister, stressing the need to take more effective and concrete steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
Government taking lessons from incidents
Delhi government has started taking necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents and the security system is being further strengthened. To prevent increasing incidents of fire in the capital and ensure quick action in emergency situations, the Delhi government is preparing a special plan for fire safety. Under this, the capacity of fire services will be increased and such small fire fighting vehicles are being purchased which can reach fast even in narrow streets and densely populated areas.
