Clean Air Mission will run in Delhi with the help of World Bank, will tighten the noose on pollution

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated as the chief guest in the orientation workshop organized under Swachh Hawa, Swasth Delhi (Delhi Clean Air Programme) on Friday. On this occasion, formal confirmation of the financial grant facility for the preparation of the project was handed over to the Delhi Government by the World Bank. This ambitious seven-year project (September 2026 to August 2033) of the Environment Department will be implemented with the cooperation of the World Bank and other multilateral institutions. Its objective is to accelerate the goals of the National Clean Air Program (NCAP).

on this occasion CM Rekha Gupta Said that the Delhi government is working on a comprehensive, scientific and long-term strategy to deal with the complex challenge like air pollution.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said during the workshop that a strong institutional coordination mechanism has been established between Environment, Transport, PWD, Municipal Corporation, DPCC, DTL, Delhi Jal Board etc. to improve air quality.

Big partnership with World Bank

The Clean Air, Healthy Delhi program is part of the Delhi Government’s vision in which equal importance has been given to both development and environmental protection. The need of the hour is to link the changes taking place in the sectors of transport, energy, construction, waste management and citizen services in the rapidly developing capital with a common goal. Delhi Clean Air Program has been conceived with this thinking in mind.

The Chief Minister said that the strategy of the Delhi government is clear, to stop the sources of pollution, to monitor on the basis of data, to strictly follow the rules through technology and to increase people’s participation. The government aims not only to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) but also to make the entire system more effective and accountable.

Expressing his gratitude to the World Bank, the Department of Economic Affairs of the Government of India and all the concerned agencies, he said that this partnership between the Central Government, the World Bank and the Delhi Government will play an important role in ensuring a clean and healthy future for the capital. He expressed confidence that the Delhi Clean Air Program will emerge as a role model for other cities of the country in the coming years.

Clean Air Mission of Delhi Government

On this occasion, Delhi Environment Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has kept environmental protection as its priority. Under the Green Budget for the year 2026-27, about 21 percent of the total budget of more than Rs 1 lakh crore has been dedicated to clean air, green Delhi and clean Yamuna. This financial allocation alone symbolizes the government’s strong commitment to provide a better and healthy life to every citizen of the capital.

Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, representatives of the Economic Department of the Government of India, World Bank Country Head Paul Prossey and other representatives of the World Bank including senior officials of all concerned departments were present in the workshop. In the workshop, World Bank experts provided information on standards and institutional preparedness related to financial management, procurement process, environment and social security under the Program for Results (P-for-R). Its objective was to familiarize the departments and agencies associated with the project with World Bank processes and international standards.

During the workshop, major steps being taken to improve air quality were discussed in detail in the technical assessment and panel discussion. In this, strategies related to improving the transport system, reducing dust flying on the roads and solid waste management were discussed. Senior officials of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Transport Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) participated in this discussion.
