Punjab State Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding has been allowed to continue in his post, but the Punjab Congress leader himself seems to be upset over these preparations of the Congress high command.
According to information Amarinder Singh Raja Wedding Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress MP from Gurdaspur and former Deputy CM of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa were upset over not being removed from their posts by the high command.
Angry Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has reached Delhi. There is speculation about his meeting with Amit Shah. On the other hand, former Chief Minister of Punjab and MP from Jalandhar Charanjit Channi is also said to be angry against the party high command and has opened a front.
Channi demonstrated strength
After not being made the state president, he called an emergency meeting of Congress leaders at his home in Ropar Morinda and demonstrated strength. In the meeting, 3 MPs, 12 MLAs and about 40 former MLAs and leaders who lost the elections in 2022 and assembly in-charges were called in this meeting.
However, only about 20 leaders including five MLAs, about 20 former MLAs and leaders who had contested the assembly elections and about 5 to 6 Congress officials attended the meeting.
On Channi’s call, MLA Tript Rajinder Bajwa, former Deputy CM OP Soni, former cabinet ministers Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Gurkirat Kotli, apart from former MLAs Gurpreet Kangar, Nazar Singh Manshahiyan, Davinder Singh Ghubaya, Inderbir Singh Bulariya, Lakhbir Lakha, Tarsem DC, Darshan Brar, Harminder Singh Gill, Madanlal Jalalpur, former Youth Congress leaders were present. State President Barinder Dhillon, Kamaljit Kadawal and former MP Mohammad Sadiq and many other leaders attended Channi’s meeting.
Opened a front against the high command
Some leaders who reached Channi’s house have clearly said that Charanjit Singh Channi should have been appointed to the post of president and by not doing so, the party high command has hurt the sentiments of the Congress workers. Some leaders even said that if Congress government has to be formed in Punjab then the command of Congress will have to be handed over to Charanjit Singh Channi.
However, after the meeting, former cabinet minister and MLA Tript Rajendra Singh Bajwa, close to Charanjit Singh Channi, said that we have some complaints regarding the organization which were discussed and we will send our objections to the Congress high command. However, Charanjit Singh Channi has till now maintained silence on the entire matter and has not given any statement to the media regarding his displeasure.
Tript Rajinder Bajwa said that everyone told Channi to talk to the high command. He wants Congress government to be formed in Punjab. There is no fight with the high command. There is resentment over the decision that has been taken.
Aam Aadmi Party took a dig
Aam Aadmi Party has taken a dig at this ongoing ruckus in Congress. Punjab Finance Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Harpal Singh Cheema, taking a dig at the ongoing controversy in the Congress, said that there is a situation like one pomegranate and one sick in the Congress. There are many contenders for one post and it seems that in the coming days, Congress leaders will scatter and join other parties. Harpal Cheema said that no Congress leader is happy with the changes that Congress Shala Command has made in its organization.
Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa gave clarification on social media on meeting Amit Shah amid rebellion in Congress. He posted on social media and wrote – I completely reject the political color being given by some sections of the media regarding the meeting between me and the Union Home Minister. This meeting was pre-arranged and took place today with the aim of presenting our stand regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
According to people close to Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Randhawa is an MP from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat adjacent to the border, hence he often meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh for important work related to his Lok Sabha constituency and the issues of Punjab and this meeting was also of that kind and not a political meeting.
