Google Chrome 149 update: Google has released the biggest security update ever for its Chrome browser. The new Chrome 149 update fixes a record 429 security vulnerabilities, including 22 critical ones. The good thing is that according to Google, these vulnerabilities have not been used in any cyber attack so far. With this update, apart from better security, users are also getting new features like notes and digital signatures in PDF files. In such a situation, for security reasons, it has become necessary for all the users to update the browser as soon as possible.
429 vulnerabilities fixed, brakes applied on 22 critical flaws
According to the Chrome Release Blog, Google has fixed a total of 429 security vulnerabilities in Chrome 149, which is the largest number ever in a single update. Of these, 22 vulnerabilities have been placed in the critical category, while 87 are in the high risk, 226 medium risk and 94 low risk categories. Google says that 371 of these vulnerabilities were identified by the company itself, while the rest were discovered by external security researchers. A total reward of $2.09 lakh has been given to these researchers so far. According to the company, so far no information has come to light about any weakness being used in an actual cyber attack, which is a matter of relief for the users.
PDF viewer becomes smarter
The biggest new feature in Chrome 149 is its built-in PDF viewer. Now users will not be limited to filling PDF forms only, but will also be able to write notes on documents and digitally sign them. Google is gradually converting its PDF viewer into a small PDF editor. This feature was already available in Firefox browser. Features like vertical tabs and full-screen reading mode were also expected, but at present these are not available to all users. Google may release these features more widely in upcoming updates.
AI discovered hundreds of flaws, Chrome 150 will come soon
Google believes that this time AI-based security tools, especially systems like “Big Sleep”, have played an important role in identifying a record number of vulnerabilities. Maximum 110 vulnerabilities were in the use-after-free category, while in 88 cases problems related to input validation and in 60 cases vulnerabilities related to wrong implementation were found. Maximum 37 flaws were found in WebGL library Angle. Apart from this, many security flaws related to extension interface and media handling have also been fixed. Google has also released new Chrome updates for Android and iOS. Chrome 150 is expected to arrive by the end of June, in which more new features and security improvements can be seen.
