US President Donald Trump has announced on Thursday, July 16, to release intelligence information related to the US elections as soon as possible. He claimed that this has shocking shortcomings in the country’s voting system. Addressing the nation from the White House just four months before the midterm elections, Trump accused China of carrying out the biggest tampering of US election data during the 2020 elections.
Trump’s serious allegations against China
Trump said that the veracity of this intelligence information has been confirmed. He claimed that people associated with China had tampered with 22 crore (220 million) American data files. In a prime-time televised address from the White House, Trump said that during the 2020 election year, the People’s Republic of China had committed the largest tampering with election data in history. China had illegally obtained 220 million American voter files.
Trump’s claim: Election related data was bought or stolen from 18 states.
He further alleged that election-related data was bought or stolen from 18 states of America. The White House had earlier said that recently made public intelligence information related to shortcomings in the US election monitoring and voting system. However, Trump did not provide any evidence to support his claims during his address.
Trump kept making such allegations earlier also
Trump has long claimed that his defeat by Democrat Joe Biden in 2020 was the result of fraud. He has also claimed, without any evidence, that there is widespread fraud in mail-in voting, that voting machines can be manipulated and that non-citizens also vote in large numbers.
However, more than 60 lawsuits filed by Trump and his allies have found no evidence of fraud sufficient to overturn the 2020 election results, while recounts, audits and his own Justice Department have found no irregularities.
Trump’s claim – 2.78 lakh non-American citizens registered as voters in federal elections
Trump also claimed that a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) review has found about 2.78 lakh non-US citizens registered as voters for federal elections. He alleged that many Democrat-ruled states did not share their voter records, so the actual number could be much higher. While advocating electoral reforms, Trump said that proof of American citizenship should be made mandatory for every voter.
