July 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There was an atmosphere of curiosity and commotion among the devotees in the ancient Shiva temple located near Ganga Sagar School in Chhatarpur city of Madhya Pradesh, when a snake reached the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and was seen clinging to the Shivalinga. The snake remained inside the temple for about two hours. During this time, the devotees who came to the temple for darshan kept seeing Lord Shiva from outside instead of going inside. Later, when the snake came out of the temple on its own, people heaved a sigh of relief and regular worship started.

According to eyewitnesses, people who came to worship in the temple in the morning saw that a snake was wrapped around the Shivalinga. As soon as they saw this scene, the people present in the temple premises alerted others and did not allow anyone to enter the sanctum sanctorum. Devotees were appealed to maintain safe distance and visit from outside only.

It is amazing to see a snake on Shivling.

During this time a large number of people gathered outside the temple. Many devotees consider this scene as a matter of faith, considering it a symbol of the divine relationship between Lord Shiva and Nagraj. People said that Lord Shiva is considered the lord of snakes and King Nagraj always resides around his neck. In such a situation, the appearance of a snake on Shivling was a wonderful and rare sight for him.

The snake kept roaming in the temple premises for about two hours. During this time no one tried to tease or remove him. Devotees and local people remained patient and appealed to everyone to maintain a safe distance. Some people also captured this unique scene in their mobile phones.

Devotees performed Jalabhishek after the departure of the snake.

Later the snake came out of the temple on its own. After this the devotees entered the temple and performed Jalabhishek and worship of Lord Shiva. There was no loss of life or any untoward situation during the incident. This incident continued to be discussed in the temple premises for a long time and devotees continued to see it as a wonderful combination of faith and nature.
