May 30, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Chandra Grahan 2026 Date and Time in India: In Sanatan Dharma and astronomy the event of solar and lunar eclipse is considered very special. According to the scriptures, solar eclipse always occurs on Amavasya and lunar eclipse always occurs on Purnima Tithi. During the occurrence of lunar eclipse the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. In such a situation the sunlight does not reach the moon. This causes lunar eclipse. The first lunar eclipse of the year occurred on the full moon of Phalgun month. This eclipse was seen in India. Now the second lunar eclipse of the year 2026 will occur on the full moon date of the month of Sawan, on the intervening night of 27th and 28th August.

This eclipse will not be visible in India. According to astrological calculations, this will be a complete lunar eclipse. During this period the moon will appear dark red. It is also called blood moon. This lunar eclipse will occur in Aquarius and Shatabhisha constellation. The eclipse will start at 06:53 am Indian time and will end at 12:32 pm Indian time. The total duration of the eclipse will be approximately 5 hours 39 minutes.

Why will this lunar eclipse not be visible in India?

Since, at the time of this second lunar eclipse it will be daytime in India. In such a situation, the second lunar eclipse of the year will not be visible in India. In this lunar eclipse, about 93 percent of the Moon will be covered in the deep shadow of the Earth. When the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon, the Sun’s rays will be bent after hitting the Earth’s atmosphere. For this reason the Moon will appear dark red during the eclipse.

Sutak period will not be valid

According to the scriptures, the Sutak period of lunar eclipse starts exactly 9 hours before the eclipse starts, but the Sutak period is valid only when the effect of the eclipse is in the country. That is, when the eclipse can be clearly seen with the naked eye in the country. Since this lunar eclipse will not be visible in India. Therefore, its Sutak period will also not be valid in the country and there will be no hindrance in auspicious and auspicious works.

Where will this lunar eclipse be visible?

This lunar eclipse will be visible mainly in the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Europe, Africa and parts of America.
