Challenge to Starlink’s dominance? Mukesh Ambani’s company will send 1650 satellites into space

Like Elon Musk, now Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Jio is also preparing to send satellite into space. People with knowledge of the matter said that Reliance Jio is preparing to build and launch a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation of 1600-1650 satellites at an altitude of about 650 kilometers to provide broadband and direct-to-device services in the next 2 to 3 years.

According to the report of Economic Times, people with knowledge of this matter said that Mukesh Ambani The company led by has submitted a proposal in this regard to the space regulator Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre, after which its configuration and technical architecture is under investigation.

emphasis on self-reliance

This is the first time that an Indian company is trying to enter the profitable LEO (Low Earth Orbit) sector. This sector is currently dominated by Elon Musk’s company Starlink, this company has about 10,000 satellites in space. This step is also important because due to increasing concerns about national security, the country is trying to reduce its dependence on foreign satellite companies.

The government is considering helping Jio in filing with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to acquire orbital slots as an Indian company is entering this strategic sector, an official said on condition of anonymity. He also said that the government will also help other Indian companies who want to enter this sector.

Jio has joint venture with Luxembourg company

Currently, Jeff Bezos’ company Amazon is in the process of deploying about 3200 satellites in LEO, of which more than 300 have already been sent into orbit. At the same time, Eutelsat OneWeb, in which Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Group is the second largest shareholder after the French government, has about 654 satellites in space. Jio also has a joint venture with Luxembourg-based company SES, which has satellites in geostationary and medium earth orbit, but not in LEO.
